   Search Alert Luggage Locks

Luggage locks security won't cut off

Travellers must leave their checked luggage unlocked so that customs can open them if selected for inspection. However, with these new Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approved lock, travellers can again lock their bags, and know whether their bags have been searched by a custom's officer, or violated by an unknown person.

While there are other TSA approved locks on the market, only this one will let you know if your bag has been opened with its unique green light/red light security window! This new luggage lock, the only one of its kind, features a secure system, which is accepted, certified, and recognised by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

With the introduction of the SearchAlert luggage lock, travellers can once again feel confident their personal property is protected, and at the same time feel confident they will not be unwilling participants in an illegal activity as a carrier of illicit goods. SearchAlert re-settable combination locks not only secure luggage, they act as sophisticated security seals as well.

Here's how the lock works:

Luggage checked at an airport is sent through an electronic screening machine. If a custom's officer determines the luggage needs to be hand searched, the SearchAlert lock will be opened by the agent. When the TSA secured access device is used, the security window changes colour from green to red.

In the near future Australia will follow suit and if a custom's officer hand searches a piece of luggage, the officer should leave a TSA notification of baggage inspection in the bag. If the SearchAlert lock security shows red, and no official notification if baggage inspection is found you should take the luggage to the airlines luggage claim office to determine if anything is missing, or if anything has been added to the luggage.

   Prestoseal Luggage Seals

Disposable, one-time-use, tamper-detection, Prestoseals replace luggage locks at airports at check-in time to avoid loss of the luggage lock if Federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents need to hand search luggage following its trip through the electronic screening process.

Prestoseals cannot be removed without destroying its security feature. If the Prestoseal is not present when you retrieve your luggage, and a Federal TSA seal has not been used to re-seal your luggage, it means that an unauthorised person has gone through your luggage. At this time travellers are urged to take their luggage to a security person to determine if anything is missing, or worse, to determine if anything has been added to the luggage.

Corporate Travel Safety then recommends that a Prestolock® Luggage Lock be used to secure the luggage as it is transferred to hotels, via shuttles or commercial vehicles. The locks are also important at hotels at check-in as well as securing important items or papers inside luggage during room stays.
